Wings of Hope

March 3 @ 3:00 pm EST

Birds are often a symbol of hope, of joy, of rebirth, of song and flight, of strength and perseverance. But loss of habitat and breeding grounds, invasive species and disease, exploitation and poaching, all contribute to the extinction of entire bird species, lost to us forever.

OurSong is honored to collaborate with the Atlanta Philharmonic Orchestra to present The Lost Birds (An Extinction Elegy). This twelve-movement work by Christopher Tin is a 2022 Grammy nominee and is described as ‘sweeping and cinematic’ in scope. A beautiful choral and orchestral work, The Lost Birds is complemented with verse from late 19th and early 20th century poets Emily Dickenson, Christina Rossetti, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and Sara Teasdale. It is a tribute to birds that once filled our skies and are no longer in existence. Hundreds of bird species are assumed extinct, which serves as a warning about our own human existence.

Please join us for a Sunday afternoon of exquisite, contemplative music. We are excited for this first collaboration between OurSong and the Atlanta Philharmonic Orchestra, and we welcome you to be a part of it!
