FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
OurSong presents “Every Woman”
Atlanta GA, February 12, 2022: OurSong’s 20th season continues as we celebrate Women’s History Month in March with a concert of varied and beautiful music composed by women.
We are excited to perform “Arise, Beloved” by Rosephanye Powell, which we commissioned and premiered in 2012. The Southeast premiere of a new commissioning coalition project, “We Hold Your Names Sacred” by trans composer Mari Esabel Valverde, is also on the program, as well as works by Korean composer Hyo-Won Woo and Michigan composer May Erlewine.
The cornerstone of our concert is “The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass” by Carol Barnett. This extended work uses text full of imagery prevalent in bluegrass music, interwoven with a traditional mass text. Accompanied by a five-piece bluegrass band and featuring soloists from the chorus, the music is beautiful, vibrant, and haunting at times.
We were thrilled to perform our December holiday concert for a live audience, and we look forward to performing on stage again. Please join us for an evening of music honoring the importance of music by women composers from many walks of life. In March, OurSong lauds Every Woman! Brava!
